唐人李肇所撰《国史补》一书,对人类如何捕捉机智伶俐的猿猴,有一段极精彩的记载。

猿猴是十分机敏的动物,它们居于深山野林中,出没无常,很难捉到,经过细致的观察,人们发现猿猴"嗜酒"。

于是,人们便在猿猴出没的地方,摆上香甜浓郁的美酒。猿猴闻香而至,先是在酒缸前流连不前,接着便小心翼翼的蘸酒吮尝。

时间一久,终因经受不住美酒的诱惑,而畅饮起来,直到酩酊大醉而被人捉住。

这种捕捉猿猴的方法并非在中国有用,东南亚一带的群众和非洲的土著民族捕捉猿猴或大猩猩,也都采用类似的方法。

This method of catching apes is not useful in China. People in Southeast Asia and indigenous peoples in Africa catch apes or gorillas in similar ways.

猿猴不仅嗜酒,而且还会"造酒",这在中国历史的典籍中都有记载。

清代文人李调元在他的著述中有"琼州多猿……尝于石岩深处得猿酒,盖猿酒以稻米与百花所造,一百六轧有五六升许,味辣,然极难得。
